Choosing the most appropriate ticketing service

24 Oct 2024 - Ticketize Team

Finding the right ticketing service to meet its requirements can be challenging for any organisation. This article examines the features of some of the main services in the UK to help organisers make an informed decision.

Eventbrite

A global organisation with a wide audience reach, Eventbrite’s main benefit is the searchable database of events, which can help raise awareness among potential ticket buyers. The service has strong integrations with popular apps but has one of the higher fees, with a headline combined platform and processing fee of 6.95% + £0.59 per sold ticket.

Best for commercial event organisers who are looking to reach a wide audience but are less sensitive to higher fees.

Ticket Tailor

UK based Ticket Tailor has built a strong brand based on low fees (using a slightly complicated pre-pay credit system), wide ranging functionality, swift customer support and ethical values. There is a lot of functionality which is great for more complex large scale events.

Best for larger organisations who can make use of the extensive functionality.

Trust Huddle

A new entrant to the community fundraising marketplace, Trust Huddle, has had a high profile launch fronted (somewhat intrigueingly) by boxer Chris Eubank. The platform employs automated messaging to reach out to all members of a community and can coordinate events, sell tickets for community-driven initiatives or facilities, and process payments online as well as manage subscriptions. The events functionality appears to be very limited but it’s great to see this new company trying to help community organisations.

Best for community organisations looking to fundraise and manage facilities

PTA Events

Developed for parent-teacher associations in the UK, PTA Events is a well-established service that provides customer support and a range of services beyond events, including school uniform sales and raffles. The user interface has a classic feel, reflecting the service’s evolution to accommodate a variety of customer needs over the years.

Best for PTAs with the time and capacity to use the wider services.

Ticket Source

With its heritage in theatre ticketing, TIcket Source is known for its excellent customer service and wide-ranging functionality, which again can extend the time needed to set up a simple event. Their system is described as “free” but actually follows a fairly standard fee-based model, albeit with higher fees than Ticketize and Ticket Tailor if using their payment processing rather than Stripe.

Best for organisations requiring significant hands on support.

Ticketize

Ticketize is designed to make it as easy as possible to sell tickets to relatively straightforward events. Functionality is focused on the key elements that smaller organisers will need to sell tickets successfully and easily (so no seating plans) but this keeps the system slick and quick. Fees are competitive and security is baked in.

Ticketize is best for smaller organisations looking to sell tickets easily to their networks and communities.
